Climate Action Schools

What is Climate Action Schools?

Climate Action Schools is our framework of education initiatives to support Scotland’s educators, young people and children to progress Learning for Sustainability and climate change education.

Climate Action Schools focuses on five main outcomes: Learning for Sustainability; Climate Emergency; Biodiversity; Litter and Pollution; and amplifying Pupil Voice.

If you are participating in any of our education activities you are already on your way to becoming a Climate Action School.

Pledge to Become a Climate Action School

As Scotland continues to work towards its Net Zero ambitions and embrace the pledges made by countries at COP 26, it is essential that we ensure that the voices of our youngest citizens are heard and that we provide with a relevant, rich, and varied educational experience that helps them to be involved in and confident to take action to combat climate change.

By drawing all of our programmes and activities together under the banner of Climate Action Schools we can ensure that supporting schools and young people develop and understanding of and the skills required to take positive action to tackle the climate crisis is a priority. In doing so we will create a network of Climate Action Schools across Scotland which will build on the legacy of Eco-Schools Scotland and Climate Ready Classrooms and provide a range of support to schools and educators to help with the transition to a Net Zero Nation and the ongoing implementation of Learning for Sustainability.

Pledge to become a Climate Action School and take action through our education programmes and campaigns.

Additionally, we are proud to be supporting the Running Out of Time relay: a 7,767km. 38 day relay race from Glasgow to Sharm el-Sheikh in time for COP27 - the world's longest non-stop relay to take place in the name of climate action!

Inside the relay baton will be the following message from young people to the world's leaders, calling on them to put young people's voices at the forefront of the conversation about climate change and empowering them through education.  We add our support for this message to our Climate Action Schools pledge and invite you to add your voice too by taking our Climate Action Schools pledge.

We Are Running Out of Time

Quality climate education and increased awareness are critical if we are to equip people of all ages with the knowledge and skills necessary to build a future in which everyone can thrive.

We are therefore calling on the world's leaders to provide us with the skills, training and professional development to build a sustainable world.

We need to recognise young people as world leaders, putting them at the forefront of the conversation about climate change and empowering them through education.

And to put in place the forward-thinking, consistent policies and funding to help us limit global warming to 1.5 degrees and support the transition to Net Zero Emissions.

We are committed to help build a future that is inclusive and sustainable for all.

Help us get there!
